The 2nd Annual Book Blogger Awards: I love everyone

HI so this is going to be the least cute post on Earth. I have an 8-10 page paper due tomorrow (not yet done) + a final (really need to study) + am moving out of my apartment + have class in an hour + OH GOD I’M FREAKING OUT WHAT HAVE I DONE.

Anyway anyway anyway I just realized today is the last day to put in nominations for the 2nd Annual Book Blogger Awards (hosted by the amazing Joce; her post here) and while I hate myself for putting it off I love everyone on here waaaaaay too much to not give them a lil recognition.

So away we go!!!

best pre-teen/teen book blogger (13-19)

Oh my god I’m freaking. Who, of the countless young people I follow, isn’t in this age range??? Wait. I’m not in this age range.

Holy lord I am not a teen.

Okay. Typing through the hyperventilating to say:

Kay @ Hammock of Books is a great blogger and the sweetest person alive. If you happen to be so lucky as to enter into a mutual following with her, you’d better count your blessings every day of your life.

best adult book blogger (20+)

My people.

Jess @ Beaucoup Books is the account I’ve been following longest on this entire godforsaken website. (We all know WordPress sucks, right?) Anyway, she has always been so sweet and great.

Elizabeth @ Red Gal Musings writes the! coolest! posts! They’re always so unique and fun. Also a lot of lists, and literally everyone who matters knows that lists are god’s gift to mankind. I love her blog, man.

Malanie @ Malanie Loves Fiction is actually, full on, completely one of my favorite people in this community. She is so kind and I feel actively lucky to be in a mutual with her. AND her blog is amazing and so fun to read??? It’s an injustice. No one person should be so great.

best book blogger from an underrepresented/minority group

I was really tempted not to do this one for a sec, because I know I’m going to forget people and the diversity of voices in this community = one of my favorite things about it, but then I was like Wait. Emma. What the hell are you doing. We all need to direct more attention to diverse/underrepresented voices and if you skip this category you are a fool.

So here we are.

Lacy @ A Ravenclaw Library is the sweetest best person in the world, and she’s written some amazing discussion posts on mental illness representation, specifically as it comes to her experiences with them. (Find them here and here.) Her points are so valuable.

Mel @ Mel to the Any is a person I completely am full-on obsessed with, and I would nominate her in essentially every category if that weren’t specifically warned against in the rules. She’s also pansexual and when she touches on the subject it’s just fantastic.

Ellyn @ Allonsythornraxx is so so so so sweet and kind and I love her and her hilarious fun posts. Notably, she wrote a post about her deafness which is so powerful and important.

best book reviews

I honestly don’t read reviews that often. I don’t read reviews of books I’m not interested in, because I’m not interested in the books; I don’t read reviews of books I am interested in, because I don’t want to sway my opinion, regurgitate their opinions, or spoil myself; and I don’t read reviews of books I’ve already read because I end up wanting to rewrite mine. So getting me to read a review is an impressive feat.

Emma @ In Search of Dragons writes greeeeaaaaat reviews that are the perfect mix of fun and serious (and very smart), like the four mini reviews of books that made her cry linked here.

Marta @ The Cursed Books always makes me want to read the book she’s talking about?? Plus, a lot of the time I haven’t heard much about the book, like in the ARC blog tour review linked here. And her blog images??? Slay me.

the master of weekly features (like Top 5 Wednesday, Waiting on Wednesday, Top 10 Tuesday)

I have so much respect for anyone who does any of these features ever, let alone people who do one or more of them consistently and creatively and make them always fun to read???

How do they do it.

Destiny @ Howling Libraries is AMAZING at these posts. She, like, always has a creative twist on the topic, manages to do a bunch of them all the time, AND tolerates my annoying long comments. A queen.

Rachael @ Beach Bookworm is also fantastic at consistently posting these, plus her blog is a blast and she includes a bunch of beaut images she takes herself!!

best book recommendations

I am such a persnickety little weirdo and I never take book recommendations. So it’s really a testament to these blogs that I listen to the books they like and instantly hoard them away in my TBR like the obsessive fan I am.

Holly @ Nut Free Nerd reads a lot of classics and literary fiction, which are two genres I like and don’t read enough of. I would trust her bookish opinions with my life. Plus they’re unique and she writes so fascinatingly about them.

Kristin @ Kristin Kraves Books likewise writes about a lot of books I’d never heard of in genres I wouldn’t normally pick up (general fiction, literary fiction and award winners). She also writes about them SO WELL that I want to pick them up instantly.

best discussion posts

The few times I have even attempted a discussion post, I have buried it in my drafts like the shameful thing it is. I do not know how people do it. I sound like I’m writing a pretentious essay, or like I’m that painfully secondhand-embarrassing seventh grade boy who class clowns his way through a presentation.

Elise @ The Bookish Actress is the queen of everything but ESPECIALLY the queen of discussion posts. My god. She’s so smart and will have you convinced of anything within a couple hundred words. I’m obsessed with her and I comment on everything she does like the stalker I am.

May @ Forever and Everly is, like…where do I even start. An object of obsession? A goddess among mortals? A beautiful account with a mind for WordPress formatting like no one I’ve seen before? My favorite person ever? All of these things, and also fantastic at discussion posts, because like all of her posts have great questions at the end so really every post is a discussion post if you think about it.

blog aesthetic

SO many pretty blogs, so little time. And also never too many pretty blogs.

Bentley @ Book Bastion just redid his blog and it looks AMAZING. He is also a full-on fave who just made a glorious return to the world of book blogging and we should honestly throw a parade in the streets.

May @ My 1st Chapter is also an absolute fave with a beautiful blog, and I wish she posted all the time forever because I can’t get enough of her OR her post design.

Ilsa @ A Whisper of Ink is yet another person I could nominate for a thousand categories, but also I am so distracted by how flippin beautiful her blog is that I can survive the horror of picking just one. Doesn’t hurt that her posts are so fun and unique, she’s the best person ever, and her formatting is god level???

best personality/friendliest member of the community

HOW DO I PICK THIS WHEN THIS WEBSITE IS CLEARLY A COLLECTION OF THE FRIENDLIEST PEOPLE ON EARTH. Literally everyone in this community is sweet and fun and interesting. I’m collapsing under the pressure.

Emma @ Thoughts of a Brown Eyed Girl is both my name twin and genuinely the nicest person I have ever encountered in all my internet escapades (which sounds gross). Everyone who knows her is lucky.

Lu @ It’s Lu Again is the first and only blog that has ever star-struck me. Her posts are so fascinating, her page is so beautiful, and on top of it she has the BEST PERSONALITY EVER. Seriously. Her posts are addictive and I still can’t believe that she even follows me or knows of my existence at all. In other words, #goals. On every level.

Happy book blogger awards, everyone!

I spent way too long writing this post and am now going to drown in schoolwork and my own tears.

Also I just absolutely know I forgot people and I’m so so so sorry in advance! I’m scrambling but if I follow you, I just absolutely love you and wish I could’ve nominated everyone.

Whereas YOU are the nicest person to ever exist and what did we ever do to deserve you and your A+ blog? Thank you so much for nominating me, girl!!!! It warms my shriveled, blackened heart. 😀
